(from the upcoming R&B album, "Mutual")
You passed me a glance before you left
Since talking would just make us upset
And we never sought to disagree
The language just stopped inside of me
To express the way your winter felt
Just dying somehow to make it melt
Maybe I blue-skied far too long
And maybe my timing was all wrong
And it don't take much to reminisce
On paradise lost sealed with a kiss
Does forever know how long it lasts?
But that part's been all played in the past
It's cool how we chanced enough to bathe
Under small clouds that rained on our parade
And I admit, sometimes, I smile as soon
As our ghosts start wailing inside our room
For thunder to break, fate must explore
Yeah, I think I've heard that all before
Your perfume's still on my FUBU shirt
And it's just strong enough to hurt
Call me a fool, but I believe
There's good in being a bit naive
If it meant a day that you would laugh
But that part's been all played in the past
[spanish guitar; violins]
I'm a man of conviction
And I know my crimes
But we all could use redemption
Can you give me mine
This time? ...
If pictures are worth a thousand words
Why can't I speak each March 23rd
When gazing at snapshots of us two?
But then again, what can I do?
A penny for thoughts of lessons learns
From notes marked "To Whom It May Concern"
Somehow, you sent them to 'a friend'
I just won't see words the same again
Some day
I'll find a way
To let a little of my soul go
'Cuz when it burns, baby
It burns fast
And my eyes are blinded by the flash
Call me a fool, but I believe
There's good in being a bit naive
Does forever know how long it lasts?
How long will this act play in the past?
